St. Colman's
has occupied its present magnificent rural
site on the northern edge of Newry since
1839. Standing in grounds extending to
60 acres and adjacent to the residence
of the Bishop of Dromore, the Most Rev.
Dr. J. Mc Areavey, the College has sensitively
planned modern extensions which blend
easily with the much cherished older parts
of the building to create an environment
in which pupils can enjoy all of the facilities
that one would associate with a well equipped
modern grammar school. |

College Nurse
|
School is a place where students and staff spend a great deal of time. It is also a place where education and health programmes can have their greatest impact because we can reach students at an influential stage in their lives – Adolescence.
Our young people are facing a world of greater pressure for academic achievement, competition for University/ College places, and are being subjected to the pressures of alcohol, sex, smoking, solvent abuse and drugs.
Over this past ten years as the College Nurse I am aware of these demands on our students and on a daily basis look after the physical / medical needs of students in their general health requirements and also offer support on topics relevant to their well-being.
I work as part of a team of professional staff supporting a safe, secure and positive environment where the well being of each member of the College community is paramount. I liase with parents/ guardians on health related / social issues relevant to individual students.
Over the years I have developed a strong relationship with outside agencies and specialist services that advise, support and contribute to the promotion of Health within the college. I am available throughout the day and also in the evening for boarders.
I welcome parental comments on any aspect of health within the College
