Cross Country Kilbroney - New video added!
Dominant display by St Colman's College at the Newry and Mourne Cross Country championships in Kilbroney Park. It was the blue jerseys of Violet Hill that led the way in all the races in Kilbroney today. The opening first year boys race was completely dominated by St Colman's athletes with the College taking first second and third , fifth and 6th. In first place was Brian Grant, closely followed by Miceal Rice in second and Brogan McComiskey in third, with the College easily taking the team prize. This result set the trend for the rest of the competition, with Leo Magee, Callum McDonagh and Myles Boyd taking the top 3 place in the second year race and the College again easily winning the team prize. St Colman'sonly had two competitors in the 3rd year boys race, Cathal Farrelly and Odhran McCafferty, this was the closest individual race of the day and it went down to the final 70 meters where a swift turn of pace in the closing stages by both boys was enough to ensure a one two, with Cathal just prevailing over Odhran.
The intermediate race was dominated by Jack O'Farrell, whose very fast opening 400m pulled him clear of the field and he went on to win by a very clear margin, however behind him the rest of his team were not found to be wanting as they filled the next 4 places , Miceal McCaul taking second Peter Murray third, Conor Doherty fourth, and Coilean Connell fifth, and again the the College taking the team title with a perfect 10 score. Finally in the Senior boys race Jamie Brannigan had an outstanding run in the 3.5 k race winning by over 15 seconds. All in all it was a standout performance by all the College athletes today as the cross country season now begins in earnest!!
