In accordance with the College Mission Statement, it is essential to promote, to the highest possible degree, the academic and pastoral achievement of every boy. One of the essential roles of the teacher, therefore, is to monitor and assess the performance of each student in all his subjects.

It is vital that the students receive regular feedback so that they can be aware of their achievements and progress towards their aspirations.

Various assessment methods may be used by subject teachers to determine the achievement of each pupil. These will include continuous assessment based on written or oral/aural work, as well as practical experiments/demonstrations or investigations. By continuously estimating the extent of pupil knowledge and understanding, by asking questions and noting responses the teacher is monitoring pupil progress. Such diagnostic assessment allows the teacher to give an immediate response to individual difficulties.

Other types of assessment include the marking of homework which is designed to complement the classroom experience; unit/topic tests and coursework assignments.

Formal assessment occurs in December and June. Reports are issued to parents after these with marks, place in class for each subject and individualised comments from each teacher. Form teachers will report on personal development and extra-curricular commitments of each pupil; Year Heads provide an academic overview with recommendations for improvement ; a Vice-Principal and the President will also comment on each student.
RECORDS OF ACHIEVEMENT
From J1 students are provided with opportunities to complete a record of achievement in a specially designed Form Booklet which also facilitates self-assessment and encourages the recording of personal achievement in both pastoral and academic areas. Parents are encouraged to assist the student and to sign the booklet when completed. After S2/GCSE students are issued with a comprehensive Record of Achievement at the annual Prize Night in December.
