The new Sports Hall and fitness suite have just recently been completed. St. Colman’s main indoor sports' facility, a modern purpose built Sports Hall, has a four court (badminton size) main hall, which can also be used for basketball, volleyball, 5-a-side soccer and indoor Gaelic to name some activities, as well as catering for all pupils. The new health and fitness suite has state-of-the-art cardiovascular and resistance equipment, along with a selection of free weights. The resistance machines are supplied by 'Life Fitness' and are designed to work most of the major muscles of the body. Pupils have one hour of PE per week and the following activities are on offer throughout the year:
Gaelic Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Gymnastics, Dance, Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country. Key Stage 4 In Key Stage 4 pupils have one hour of PE per week also and the trend here is to ensure that measures are taken early on in the maturation process to encourage good long term lifestyle habits.
This we hope to achieve in our Health-Related programme which is a very important and discrete element. H.R.P.E. will be undertaken as a whole class activity and we intend to involve the pupils in: -
Investigation of short and long-term exercise on body systems. -Experiencing a range of community based recreational activities –Depending on availability of facilities. -Develop personal activity profiles -Plan and monitor a personal health –Related exercise programme. -Investigate factors that determine personal health and fitness within the context of sport and exercise, for example nutrition, smoking, alcohol and drugs.
Gaelic Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Athletics and Cross Country are also on offer. |

This course builds upon the knowledge and skills acquired through PE in the junior school and is a perfect foundation for further study in PE at Advanced Level.
It is a demanding course, requiring a high level of commitment and should only be considered by those prepared to work hard in both practical and theoretical aspects of the subject.
Pupils opting for this course must be aware that the theoretical component occupies quite a substantial proportion of the time allocated.
The course is designed to encourage pupils to investigate PE more fully- by looking at areas of human performance, physiology, contemporary issues in sport and practical activities.

| St. Colman's has enjoyed an illustrious and long tradition of participation in many sporting events throughout the country and the College is synonymous with Gaelic football since it was first introduced as a major field game in 1926 by Fr.Colleran. Since our first MacRory victory in 1949 College teams have gone from strength to strength and are now one of the 'elite' gaelic football colleges in Ireland having won 6 Hogan Cups, 2 U.16 and 2 U.14 titles at All-Ireland level. We top the roll of honour in every Ulster Colleges competition, MacRory Cup, Rannafast Cup, CornNa Nog and Dalton cup. The college has contributed enormously to the overall growth and development of gaelic games in Armagh and Down as can be seen from the number of past pupils who have played for both counties. Many other extra-curricular activities are offered in St. Colman's with the pupils competing in Athletics, Cross Country, Tennis, Handball, Swimming, Hurling, Skiing and Outdoor Pursuits. |
