| Sociology is the study of society. It focuses on people and their behaviour - their individual lives and their role as members of society. Sociology is the disciplined academic study of many of the things that you will have already experienced for yourself, e.g. you have direct experience of living in a family and you have experience of going to school and being part of the education system. Studying Sociology provides you with knowledge of the different theories and research methods to explain and examine the social world. Sociology also encourages you to challenge the taken-for-granted and enhances your critical thinking skills. |
