Drama Co-Ordinator: Mrs Ann Marie Millar

The aims of the Drama Department are to encourage and develop:

  • Opportunities for leadership
  • Opportunities for working as part of a team
  • Appraisal skills of appreciation and evaluation
  • Appreciation of a text in a working context.

The Drama Department also seeks to offer extra-curricular activities;

KS3 Drama

 Pupils participate in Drama as an individual subject in Years 8, 9 and 10. Over the three years students will have the opportunity to study a range of units helping them develop various drama skills.

GCSE Drama

CCEA Drama Unit 1 Understanding Drama 40%

Unit 2 Drama Performance 60%

This specification will help prepare students for the study of drama and related subjects at a more advanced level, for example GCE AS and A2 Drama and Theatre Studies, GCE AS and A2 English Literature and BTEC qualifications in Performing Arts. The course also supports students in the area of Learning for Life and Work.

A-level - AQA Theatre Studies

This specification will help students to develop their knowledge and understanding of a range of practical drama skills including:

  • Acting
  • Directing
  • Costume

Understanding of the major theatrical styles performance design skills, interpretation, visual and design impacts and set creation technical abilities lighting and sound design, special effects, technology and appropriate equipment practical skills from making masks and building sets to creation of period style and make-up confidence, team-building, communication and other life skills.

Career opportunities for students who study A-level Drama and Theatre Studies include: Arts/theatre administration, arts journalism, director, actor, designer, playwright, stage management, theatre management, theatrical agent, technician, broadcasting, media presenting, education, drama therapy and writing.
