Holy Week

Palm Sunday - Jesus Enters Jerusalem

Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a colt. The people greeted him as though he were an earthly king; they were sure he would end the Roman occupation and Jerusalem would again be a Jewish city. They shouted, "Hosanna," which means "save us."

Holy Thursday - The Last Supper/ Garden of Gethsemane

Holy Thursday was the day on which Jesus celebrated the Passover with his disciples, sharing a meal with them which we call the Last Supper. In those days it was usual for a servant to wash the feet of each guest on arrival. Jesus takes on the role of servant and he washes the feet of the disciples.

Jesus then took bread, blessed it and broke it and shared it out among the disciples saying, 'This is my body'.

Jesus then took the cup, blessed it and shared it among the disciples and they all drank from it. He said, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.'

Jesus then went with his disciples to the Garden of Gethsemane. Jesus had become distressed and leaving his disciples at the gate, he told them to keep watch and pray. He went further into the garden and fell on the ground and prayed. Jesus asked God for strength and courage to help him fulfil his mission. Then Judas arrives with a group of soldiers and he betrays Jesus with a kiss. Jesus is arrested and taken away for trial before the Jewish leaders.

Good Friday - The Crucifixion

After being brought before Pilate and Herod, Jesus was beaten, scourged, mocked, then finally crucified at the hill called Calvary.

Jesus' body is taken down from the Cross and laid in the tomb.

Holy Saturday

Holy Saturday is the day the body of Jesus, Son of God and Son of Man, rested in the tomb.

The disciples and friends of Jesus mourned their loss.

Easter Sunday - The Resurrection

The women go to the tomb early on the Sunday morning and find the tomb empty.

An angel appears to them and tells them that Jesus has Risen.

Jesus is Risen!
