GCSE French

In St Colman's, French is assessed through CCEA at GCSE level. Results have been excellent and we have very good numbers at GCSE level.

The exam is structured as follows:

Speaking (30%)

The boys sit 2 Speaking Exams (2 x 15%). These are both sat in S1 and then are formally assessed by CCEA at the end of the year. Therefore, our pupils know exactly what percentage they have achieved in their Speaking Exam when they are entering S2.

Writing (30%)

The boys sit their 2 Writing Exams (2 x 15) in S2. Each written piece is expected to be between 300 350 words in length and is sat under controlled conditions in school. Generally, these are sat in the earlier part of the S2 year. This allows further time for Reading and Listening Practice in class.

Reading (20%)

The boys sit their Reading Exam in May/June of S2.

Listening (20%)

The boys sit their Listening Exam in May/June of S2.
