GCSE Geography

Currently the exam board we use for GCSE is CCEA (Council for the Curriculum Examinations and Assessment). There is an emphasis on how people interact with the physical environment. At GCSE level Unit 1 is Physical Geography and Unit 2 is Human Geography. Unit 3 is Controlled Assessment. Unit 1 and Unit 2 are worth 75 % of GCSE and are done as external examinations in the summer term of Year 12. Controlled Assessment is done as fieldwork and within the classroom. It is worth 25% of GCSE. It is done in the classroom in S1 and S2. Topics studied are:

Unit 1

Theme A: Dynamic Landscape (Rivers and Coasts)

Theme B: Our Changing Weather and Climate

Theme C: The Restless Earth (Volcanoes, Earthquakes, Tsunamis)

Unit 2

Theme A: People and Where they Live

Theme B: Contrasts in World Development

Theme C: Managing Our Resources

Unit 3

Controlled Assessment: planning, presenting data, analysing and interpreting, concluding and evaluating fieldwork.
