Hurling
Hurling began again in St Colman's in 2004/2005 with a team entered in the Kirk Cup Year 12 competition. The college reached the semi-final losing to a Loreto Coleraine team coached by none other than Mr Mc Evoy. The college has competed ever since in Ulster Colleges B competitions with the odd entry at a higher grade. In 2009 Matthew Teague became the first college student to be awarded a coveted colleges hurling allstar. In June 2011 in Pairc Esler there were joyous scenes as a talented Year 10 team won the Mc Farland Cup, overcoming a strong Red High 15, thus becoming the first college hurling team on the wall. The team was captained by Liatroim's Pearse Og Mc Crickard who went on to be awarded back to back colleges allstars. Pearse was a dual allstar in Year 14 (2015) which was another first in our school. 2014 saw the Year 9 Mc Greevy Cup squad reach that competition final for the first time and so beginning a strong run in that competition. Losing narrowly to St. Patrick's Keady in 2014 we went one better in 2015 bringing the cup to Violet Hill for the first time after a tough encounter with St Patrick's Armagh. Clonduff's Padraig Clancy was the captain of this talented bunch. This year the college Mc Greevy team lost out in the final after a great tussle with St Patrick's Downpatrick. With the progress of our junior teams recently it is hoped that we can compete strongly again at Casement Cup Level. Many of our senior students have played on the combined schools Dun team that competes in the Mageean Cup each Autumn.
Each year we have students who lift a stick for the first time in school and we encourage anyone to get involved regardless of experience. We are also grateful for the work done to foster the game in the local clubs namely Ballela, Ballyvarley, Castlewellan, Craobh Rua, Clonduff, CPN, Killeavey, Liatroim, Newry Shamrocks and Sean Treacy's Lurgan.
