Gaisce - The President's Award is Ireland's National Challenge Award for young people aged 15 - 25, the country's most prestigious and respected individual Award programme. It is a challenge from the President of Ireland to the young people of Ireland to set and pursue personal goals in four different areas of activity; Community Involvement, Personal Skills, Physical Recreation and an Adventure Journey, with the support of an adult leader.

Gaisce is an old Irish word which means 'a great achievement'.

Gaisce works on the basis of a personal challenge set by the young person. You will set your own challenge and agree it with a President's Award Leader (PAL). You won't be competing with other participants, as each challenge is completely individual' so the only person you will compete with is yourself.

The President's Award is currently in its seventh successful year, running in St Colman's with five groups completing Gaisce up to Gold level to date.  Last year saw the pupils receive their Gold award from President Micheal D Higgins and currently 8 pupils are completing paperwork in order to receive their award this year.  In 2014 / 15 we have 18 Bronze level participants, 16 Silver level participants and 17 Gold level participants.  This scheme is thoroughly enjoyed by the pupils and goes from strength to strength each year.
