Young Bunsens Quiz 2023

St. Colman's College hosted the Royal Society of Chemistry's Young Bunsens' Chemistry Quiz. A huge thank you to the staff and pupils from St. Mary's High School, Our Lady's Grammar School, St. Joseph's High School and St. Paul's High School for participating in the event. Congratulations to our winning J1 team; Ethan Quinn, Louis Lennon, Cuan Fegan, Daniel Farthing and Liam Lennon and St. Mary's High School who were are runners up.

This week was a marvellous celebration of sport at Violet Hill as we celebrated our many talented athletes during the respective Year Group Sports Days. Thanks to Chief Organiser Head of PE Mr Murray and the PE Department for their work during the week and in the lead up to the event. Thanks also to the many teachers and staff who helped out. The athletes were absolutely fantastic, one and all.

Huge congratulations to St Paul's Bessbrook on their triumph at the second VHC Post Primary Athletics Invitational. This was a special occasion as it was hosted at Violet Hill during our Bicentennial Year. Sincere thanks to St Louis Ballymena, St Joseph's Newry, De La Salle Downpatrick, St Paul's Bessbrook and pupils from St Colman's College for attending. The event was organised to a tee by Mr Henry once again this year.

Formal beginning of the Bicentenary - VHC 1823-2023

St Colman’s College was founded on 12th May 1823. Wednesday 10th May 2023 saw the commencement of events to mark the College’s Bicentenary Year – a special milestone in the history of Violet Hill College. A sea of blue blazers made their way from the College to Newry Cathedral as part of a Sponsored Walk, with over 600 pupils and staff taking part. Pupils have been raising money for charity over the past few weeks as part of this initiative. Archbishop of Armagh Eamon Martin

Archbishop Eamon Martin will celebrate a Violet Hill Bicentenary Mass in Newry Cathedral on Wednesday 10th May 2023. After Mass the Archbishop will visit St Colman's College where he will meet pupils and Staff. Archbishop Martin will help to unveil a commemorative stone at the front of the school which also marks the 200 year anniversary of St Colman's College. We look forward to this event to mark the official beginning of our Bicentennial year.
