The newly inducted J1 pupils enjoyed a fun first day at the College as they enjoyed the company of their form class colleagues and their form teacher for the duration of the day. As well as taking part in some fun activities throughout the day in class to get to know one another better they also took the opportunity to visit the College chapel where they will congregate as a year group for weekly assembly. In an ironic twist of fate it was the two College teachers who made the headlines during the Armagh Senior Camogie final at Madden Raperees as Tullysaran and Ballymacnab played out a draw. Bragging rights are therefore yet to be decided. Congratulations to Maths teacher Ms McSorley and RE teacher Ms McKee and we wish them well in the rematch. Both our teachers were excellent today with Ms McSorley thinking shed sealed the victory for Tullysaran only for Ms Mc Kee to rifle home an equaliser with

S4 Pupils spruce up for showcase event

Our S4 pupils and their partners looked amazing this evening as they walked on the red carpet at the annual College formal. The evening leant itself perfectly to an informal networking event outside the beautiful surroundings of the Canal Court Hotel and all guests were welcome at the door by senior members of College staff. We thank the pupils for their exemplary behaviour and we hope that tonight's celebration proves to be an appropriate prelude to a year which is packed with good fun and load

Mark Curran - Winner of Queen's University College, Belfast Scholarship

Mark Curran was congratulated by Principal Cormac Mc Kinney at the College today for not only achieving a place at the Queen's University Belfast to read International Business with Spanish but significantly for having being awarded a prestigious scholarship. The scholarship was awarded to Mark as a result of a stringent application process involving interview and video presentation. Yesterday was an historic day for not only the new J1 pupils at Violet Hill but also their parents and all those who have cared for them in their formative years. Chairman of Board of Govenors in the College Bishop John Mc Areavey celebrated Mass with our new entrants and asked them to grow and develop in the College as so many others had done in the previous 189 years before them. Miceal Mullen - A key member of successful Cúig Group

Congratulations to Miceal Mullen (pictured second from the right) who is an integral part of the band 'Cúig' which won the Trócaire Battle of the Bands competition at the All ireland Fleadh in Derry last weekend. The band was awarded with a unique opportunity to take part in a bespoke 3 day recording session in Dublin based studios. By virtue of their success they will also have a support slot at Temple Bar's Trad Fest in January 2014. It was another fantastic achievement for a College pupil at

One of the biggest Fleadhs in history took place in Derry last weekend and it was indeed LegenDerry! Many College pupils savoured the good craic and great atmosphere and we are particularly proud of the achievements of our young Uillinn piper Matthew McAstocker. Matthew came second in the pipes and we salute this wonderful achievement. Matthew is pictured with past pupil and organist James Murphy.

Wilkinson Essay Prize awarded to Gavin Fleming

A prestigious essay writing competition, delivered by St John's College, University of Cambridge was recently awarded to College pupil Gavin Fleming. Gavin's essay 'what is there left to explore' was another installment of prose from the Bessbrook student and is a further endorsement of his essay writing ability given that he was also awarded the Dicken's Fellowship Award last year. The award was presented to Gavin at a ceremony in Cambridge University on 25th July 2013. We wish Gavin well as he

Last year's Head Prefect Kevin Haughey attended the College yesterday to pick up his A2 results.Kevin excelled and is delighted to have been accepted to his desired course at the University of St Andrews, the oldest University in Scotland. Kevin will read Maths and Physics at a prestigious university which also happens to be the third oldest university in the English speaking world (Founded in 1410.)
