Busy times for Home Economics Department

It has been a hectic couple of weeks in the Home Economics Department but the culinary genius of our boys is making it all the worthwhile! Tesco and Gilfresh visited the College last week and staged a cookery demonstration in our HE Department. The visitors were very impressed, not only with the great facilities on offer in the HE Department at the College but also by the enthusiasm and talent shown by our boys. Two such pupils are Cathal Clarke and James Mulligan, fifth years in the College with a passion for cycling. Newry Under 15's won the Ulster under 15 bowl championship agaisnt Omagh in Cookstown last month. The members of Newry rugby club that attend our school have been committed to the club throughout their capmaign and their dedication of the players led to the victory and put their names in the history books as the only newry youth team to ever win their division and win an ulster final. Staff and undergraduate students from Queen’s University School of Pharmacy visited St Colman’s College recently to deliver the ‘Pharmacists in Schools’ workshop to year 8 pupils. During the workshop pupils had the opportunity to prepare a mouthwash, suspension and cough bottle. Through role-play the pupils also dispensed preions.

It was a magnificent setting at a refurbished Mary Peter's Track for down schools intermediate & senior championships & mini & junior boys 800m qualifying rounds. Jack o'farrell won his heat in fastest time of day with Peter Murray finishing 2nd in his heat- both qualify for down schools mini & junior down schools championships. Peter Fegan 1st in his heat & Conor O'Neill 3rd- both qualify as above. Mark friel 3 rd in heat and ran well in final narrowly missing qualific
