The McGreevy Cup hurling team in the College, managed by Miss McKee and Miss O’Hare was victorious today in the McGreevy Cup Semi Final vs St Columba’s Portaferry. The semi-final game was never going to be easy, especially against a school from an area steeped in Hurling tradition and glory – their local senior team having won the Ulster Hurling Championship on Sunday past, overcoming Cushendall. Teachers Mr McMahon and Mr McEvoy were delighted to call into the Turnavall On-Farm Butchery & Farm Shop last week to show some support for the new project at the Saval site which has is largely down to the hard work and ingenuity of College pupils Colum (S4) and Kieran (S1) McNally. The project which has evolved from many years of passion for the Agriculture sector by this County Down based family is not to be missed as visitors will experience when they make the trip to the rural farm

Renowned Irish organist visits College Chapel

The organ classes of the 86th Newry Musical Feis took place in St Catherine’s Dominican Church, Newry on the afternoon of Thursday April 3. Novice, Junior and Intermediate organists presented a total of ten performances for the eminent organist and adjudicator Professor Gerard Gillen, titular organist at Dublin’s Pro-Cathedral, former Head of Music, NUI Maynooth and currently Chair of the National Advisory Committee on Church Music to the Irish Episcopal Conference.

Head of Careers Mr O'Hare is delighted to announce that the All Ireland Scholarship Scheme which is funded by JP McManus provides financial support to high achieving students from challenging economic backgrounds is now available to apply for. The scholarship offers students financial support of £5,500 per annum for the duration of their course. A Gold certificate was awarded to Mateusz Jadczak in this year's UK Chemistry Olympiad. Mateusz also received an award for being in the top 50 scorers (out of 5682 in the whole of the UK) in the 2014 UK Chemistry Olympiad. This is an amazing achievement for this young man who has made headlines in the national press previously due to finishing as top candidate in GCSE Irish in the North. 40 students had the opportunity to represent Coláiste Cholmáin on Friday last when the they ran a leg of the biennial Rith from Violet Hill to the town hall. The Rith began in the West Cork GaeltachtvillageofBaile Bhuirnéwinding its way through the country during the fortnight preceding St Patrick’s Day finishing inBelfast. Clubs, community groups and schools from all over the country pay to carry the baton over a leg(1 Km) of the Rith in order to raise fund for the Irish Language.
