S3 pupil Cathal Clarke was awarded with 'Young Rider of the Year' last week at a glitzy ceremony organised by the Newry Wheelers. In the subsequent days he was also informed of his ion to the Irish U'17 team. Principal Mr McKinney took time out this morning to recognise Cathal's outstanding achievements and wish him, on behalf of the College, every success as he continues to develop into a precocious cycling talent.

Mr McKinney and Mr Mc Mahon joined President of St Joseph's Conference of St Vincent de Paul Micheal Murphy in thanking the 53 volunteer pupils and staff who raised over £800 in a recent charity Bagpack. Another inspiring address by Legion of Mary representatives took place today in the serene surroundings of the College chapel. Well known figure in the community Mrs Vera Fegan and Mr Hubert McCavitt are always welcome here at the College as their work is entirely selfless and inculcates in our pupils the importance of Devotion to Our Lady. Mrs Fegan and Mr McCavitt focused our boys today on the importance of the Rosary prayer and the significance of the miracuolous medal.

Our boys will play St Ciaran's, Ballygawley in a MacRory Cup Qualifier on Saturday 1st February to determine who will progress to the Quarter Final proper. Well done to the succesful members of the Glenn GAA Quiz team, namely Ruairi Byrne, Conall McNally, Sean Boyle and Jack Mc Cartan (all College pupils) and Eoin Rice who was an important member of the Rostrevor GAA victorious Novelty Act. There was much talent on display last week in St Patrick's Downpatrick for the County Final.

Memorable A2 History Conference at the Somme Heritage Centre

The A2 History class set off from the College to Newtownards and the Somme Heritage Centre on Tuesday morning for what has now become an annual pilgrimage for the A2 and AS classes in November and in March. This may be the last of the winter excursions as CCEA will, after this academic year, cease to offer the AS and A2 modules in January. We reached our destination in good time and received our customary warm welcome from the staff at the Somme Centre. This year’s lecture was slightly different
