Young men from the College were accompanied by their colleagues across local schools including Our Lady's Grammar School, Abbey Grammar School, St Joseph's High School and Newry High School. It was a fantastic event and one which the pupils would dearly love repeated. The J3 year group gathered together on this occasion for the first assembly of the year. The theme of the assembly was Study Skills in preparation for assessment 1 next week. With the guidance of their form teachers, J3 pupils presented their ideas about study techniques such as mind maps and acronyms, study timetables and exam preparation.

St Colman’s College retained their Peadar Barry Cup title at An Ríocht on Friday 11th October which was hosted again by St Columban’s College, Kilkeel and Mr Steven Poacher, the Head of PE and the An RíochtClub. The manner in which the tournament has been organised and run is a credit to Mr Poacher and the AnRíocht Club and all the competing schools owe a debt of gratitude to our hosts. As part of our continued dedication to science education, a number of science teachers from St Colman’s College, Newry are involved in a Primary Science Outreach Programme. The teachers visit primary 6 and primary 7 classes in local primary schools to deliver fun science activities. Last week Mrs Doherty visited the state of the art new Carrick Primary School in Burren. Well done to all the enthusiastic kids, it was a fantastic day of science.

Violet Hill welcomes The Gideons International back to the College

Our year 8 pupils received their very own copy of the renowned Gideon Bible in the College chapel yesterday morning in a lovely service which was both thought provoking and informative. We always enjoying seeing representatives from the Gideon Association and we thank them sincerely for their kindness and support to our young men as they begin their formative first steps here at the College.
