St Colman’s College qualify for the All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships for the 13 year in a row . Great performances by St Colman’s athletes in the Ulster Schools Cross Country Championships at Mallusk today, The first year team battled valiantly throughout in the Mini boy’s race with Daire Murphy leading the team home in 10th place out of a Field of 150 athletes he was well backed up by Oisin Murphy , Shane McDonald, Nathan Caulfield, Niall McCauley, Fiona McCaul and Harry Fearon . The scoring was very tight with RBAI winning with 85 points St Michaels Enniskillen 2nd with 92 points and St Colman’s taking the bronze medals with 102 points.
The Intermediate team took the silver medals and qualified for the All Ireland finals in Santry Dublin on March 7th, Caulum McDonagh led the team home in 13th back up by Ultan O’Callaghan, Leo Magee, Paul Og McAvoy, Tomas O’Ceallaigh, James McKibben , Niall Wallace and Diarmuid O’Hare .
In the Junior boys race up and coming star Caelan McCracken Hsdca great race finishing 25 th from a field of over 150 athletes.
The final race of the day featured the senior boys , and what a spectacle this turned to be for the big crowd , after a slow start a small group of 6 got away after about 2000M of the 6000M race , but Miceal McCaul was not content to keep the fast finishers in the race and with 3000M to go he put the foot down and really stretched the field out very quickly , only Last years Champion Conal McClean was fit to go with him, he stuck like glue to the back of Micael and try as he did he could not break away from him, and over the last 200M Conal got the lead and Miceal was unable to regain it, but a silver medal in the top race of these Championships is not to be sneezed at, and it represents the best finish by a St Colman’s athlete in the Senior boys race
