St Colman’s College CEIAG

At St Colman’s College we strive for Bonitas, Disciplina and Scientia / Kindness, Self Discipline and Knowledge.  St. Colman's College is a Christian Community in which all of its members are valued and in which every member of staff is committed to ensuring that every one of our pupils is fully alive to, and fully empowered to realize, his full potential.

We aim to:

  • To create a climate wherein all students can flourish and fully develop their God-given talents.
  • To ensure that St. Colman's College is a happy and fulfilling place to be.
  • To instil in students a sense of responsibility for their own actions and achievements.
  • To awaken in students a sense of their dignity and self-worth.
  • To inculcate in students, respect for the dignity and rights of others.
  • To create warm and positive relationships between students, staff and all members of the College Community.
  • To build an effective partnership between parents, students and staff.
  • To bring our students to a full understanding of our Catholic Faith and to promote Christian values and attitudes in all members of the College Community.

Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance is provided by Head of Careers Mrs B Farmer, Mr C O’Hare, Mr O O’Neill, subject teachers, Form Teachers, and external Careers Advisors for the Careers Service NI Department – Mr Gallagher.  St Colman’s College students also benefit from outside agencies such as Young Enterprise, University Roadshow, HEI’s, business organisations and training providers.

CEIAG Rationale –

Aims-

  • Our students need support and assistance to become effective careers decision-makers, making choices that will lead them on to further or higher education, apprenticeships, training and ultimately employment.
  • The overall objective of an effective career education and guidance programme is to enable a learner to manage their own career development successfully, confidently and with due respect and care for their own needs, those of others and of the wider community.
  • Enabling our students to develop the skills necessary to make informed decisions about their education and training and employment options based on self-awareness, understanding of the relevance of their education, skills and experiences and awareness of the available pathways and opportunities (locally, nationally and internationally).
  • Providing our students with the opportunities and experiences to develop essential employability and life skills in order to become effective citizens and employees.
  • Ensuring that our students have access to good quality career education, information, advice and guidance, tailored to their individual needs, so that they are able to make informed choices.
