Literacy
At St. Colman's College, we believe that good literacy skills are the key to educational progress, social integration and personal development and happiness. The St. Colman’s Literacy Policy outlines the strategies and approaches that we implement in order to support our pupils and develop their literacy skills. We strive to ensure that each child becomes equipped with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills in literacy. We aim for a co-ordinated and effective cross-curricular emphasis on literacy (see whole school booklets) that supports all teachers in recognising and exploiting opportunities to support the development of literacy, through their teaching
We provide literacy mentoring for pupils. This takes place every Wednesday afternoon, from 1.45 – 2.20. This mentoring is provided by our Sixth Form Pupils. This mentoring is available to any pupil who seeks to avail of it. Where appropriate, we also provide additional literacy support and have a wide range of resources at our disposal.
