There was a celebratory mood in St Colman’s this afternoon as the Business Studies, Music, Irish and MVRUS Departments gathered in the College foyer with their high achievers and College Principal Mr Mc Kinney. St Colman’s pupils achieved remarkable results this year at GCSE Level with the most striking of all story being the achievement of Mateusz Jadczak. Mrs Doreen O'Neill, Principal of St Joseph's Primary School in Newry was very well received by the large crowd in attendance at the KS3 Awards ceremony on Wednesday 3rd October. Mrs O'Neill expressed the importance of making every day count in the life of St Colman's and making the best of all the great opportunities that the College offered. The members of the St Vincent de Paul Conference in Violet Hill, along with St Colman's Principal Mr Mc Kinney and SVP co-ordinator Mr Mc Mahon welcomed guest Mícheál Murphy to the College this morning. SVP raised £600 at the end of the last acdemic year for the charity and took great pleasure in handing over the proceeds to St Joseph's President Mícheál this mornig over an informal cup of coffee.

The course is designed to help them make a success of their transition to secondary school, so that they can immediately become even more effective learners than they had been in the primary school.

The St Colman's College commuinity welcomed representatives from the Gideons this morning to what has become an Annual ceremony when J1 pupils receive their complimentary copy of the Gideon bible. The presentation of the 'little red book' has become synonymous with the induction programme for first years at Violet Hill.

Mr Declan Mussen, PE Teacher and Athletics coach is happy to report that the recently departed twins Andrew and Patrick Monaghan are doing well in Mississippi State University. The twins were scouted by representatives from 'The Bulldogs' having starred on St Colman's College Athletics double All Ireland winning teams and also having been prolific with their club Lagan Valley.

The Language Department and in particular Mrs Riona Mackin are in the throes of preparation for the upcoming European Day of Languages which is due on 26th September. The language rooms are awash with colour and there are a plethora of events planned for the week beginning 24th September.
