S2 pupil Ronan MacMahon was presented with an individual award this afternoon in recognition of his achievement of first place in GCSE Spanish in the College. Head of Spanish Mr Toner and Principal Mr Mc Kinney presented Ronan with his plaque as he was not in attendance at the GCSE Awards event. On Sunday April 21 Monsignor Eamon Martin was ordained as coadjutor (assistant) Archbishop of Armaghby Cardinal Séan Brady assisted by Most Rev Charles John Brown, Papal Nuncio to Ireland and Most Rev Gerard Clifford, Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus of Armagh. Archbishop Eamon is expected to succeed Cardinal SéanBrady as Primate of All Ireland in 2015. The fourth Sunday after Easter is Good Shepherd Sunday, a day of special prayer for vocations

J3 pupil Matthew Mc Conville has cooked up a storm in a competition run by St Angela's College, Sligo. Matthew is a budding young chef and enjoys experimenting in the kitchen. Matthew's teacher and Head of Home Economics Miss Murphy is very complimentary of young Matthew. 'Matthew is a great lad and loves his Home Economics. There ia a great enthusiasm in his class for the subject and this is another example of that diligence.' Matthew will move forward to the All Ireland Final in Sligo on May 9

The choir were also awarded second place in Class 101: Secondary School Choir. Also in the photograph is Miss Sinéad Frame, Head of Music.

Spring Concert a resounding success

There was only standing room by the end of this evening's Spring Concert in the Assembly Hall of St Colman's College. Parents of our participating pupils and indeed good music supporters made their way to 46 Armagh Road in large numbers for the annual event. It has been a busy time for the Music Department with Newry Musicsl Feis and preparations for this evening's concert requiring a lot of their attention. Sincere congratulations to all involved in an enjoyable night of entertainment.

All of the College community will be behind J2 Peter Fegan and S3 Jake MacMahon as they participate in this weekend's London Marathon. The two pupils have been great ambassadors for the College on the Athetics scene and participated in the recent All Ireland Championships in UUJ - the College winning the Mini Boys event. Both boys have annexed Ulster and All Ireland medals in Athetics and Peter has also won an Ulster Colleges' Football medal.

All J1 students recently participated in a Sponsored Readathon, organised by the literacy coordinator Miss Boyle and with the support of the English department. The aim of the Readathon was to raise as much money as possible for disabled and seriously ill children. The three charities for which the money was raised are ‘CLIL Sargent’, ‘Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity’ and ‘Readwell’. To date a staggering £830.00 has been raised- this is a fantastic achievement for all invol

Congratulations to St Colman's College Saxophone Ensemble on winning Class 64: Woodwind Ensemble (Junior) 18 years and under at Newry Musical Feis. The six strong ensemble were awarded 87 marks and The Geordie Berry Cup for their performance of City of Dreams and Playing with Fire.
