Mixed bag for St. Colman's in Leopold Cup

Congratulations to the J3 and S1 students who where involved in Leopold cup action on Friday 16th of October in the Woodlans in Belfast. The boys had their first game against Rathmore Belfast and suffered defeat, they then re-grouped and had a 7 point win over close rivals St. Malachy's Grammar school, Antrim Rd. Belfast.

Past Pupil Jack Farrell, who left the college in 2008, recently worked on President Obama’s successful re-election campaign in the swing-state of Ohio. The College travelled to Cloughan, between Monaghan and Castleblayney, for the decisive fixture of their McCormack Cup campaign against St Macartan’s, Monaghan on Friday. The win against St Michael’s had been a hard fought, if below par performance and a significant improvement would be needed against the Farneymen. That is indeed what the College delivered for most of the game and the secured the vital victory by a margin of five points. The game opened positively again

It truly has been a memorable week for the choir of Violet Hill and its many followers. On Saturday, December 8, the choir of St Colman's College took up the invitation from popular Hilltown singer/song-writer Matt McGinn to join him in his Winter Concert in the ‘Town’ Hall, Newry. While a student at St Colman's College, Matt himself was a choir member for seven years. The concert was packed out and it was a great success. Congratulations to 2nd Year Art & Design student Ronan Malumphy on his recent artistic success. Over 40 schools entered Newry & Mourne Annual Environmental Calendar competition. 13 winners were presented with prizes on the 14th November at a presentation organised by Newry & Mourne District Council. Ronan’s winning poster focussed on the theme of recycling and carried the slogan “Don’t throw it away….Think of the potential”.
