Good Luck and best wishes to our S3 students who are going out on Work Experience next week (24th -28th June). This is a very worthwhile and important activity, particularly in preparation for University Course applications in September! Darren Patterson wins iPod Touch

Darren Patterson, who finishes his 7 years at St Ronan's PS this week, was delighted to receive an iPod touch as first prize for successfully completing the 'Treasure Trail' at Violet Hill's Open Day. Darren is Abbey CBS bound next year and we wish him well in his future endeavours. Darren is pictured with St Colman's College Senior Teacher Mrs Doherty. Coalin Fegan and Niall Grant were runner up winners and will both receive Quay's vouchers.

College community salutes long time servants

St Colman's College Annual end of academic year dinner took place in the Canal Court last evening. It was a very enjoyable event which included staff of the College, past and present. Former Presidents Canon Boyle and Canon Brown joined current College Principal Cormac Mc Kinney in celebrating another milestone at Violet Hill. The night belonged to Josephine Mc Grath and Fiona Small who have completed a 25 year service to the College and still remain as diligent as ever! Mary Belle

Agriculture Minister Visits Violet Hill

Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Michelle O'Neill visited Violet Hill today in what turned out to be a fantastic celebration of young people passionate about the Agriculture sector. In a recent competition J3 pupil Matthew Mc Conville was awarded as Feirmeoir na Bliana or 'Farmer of the Year.' Three A level Design and Technology students from St. Colman's College Newry, Niall Murphy (Mullaghbawn), Derwin Mc Cartan (Gilford) and Ciaran Mc Conville (Mayobridge) displayed their engineering projects to panels of judges and visitors at the Sentinus Young Innovators event held at the Odyssey Arena Belfast on Monday 17th June. Pupils and staff at St. Colman's were delighted to learn that Niall Murphy was awarded two major prizes at the prestigious event.

Sports day 2013 was a resounding success thanks to Head of PE Cathal Murray, staff of the College and the boys of course. This year’s format was slightly different in that most of the prize-winners were presented with their medals directly after the respective events. Saturday June 8th 2013 will live long in the memory of the Gaels of Down as the day the county finally annexed the Christy Ring Cup at a sun drenched Croke Park. Patrick Tumilty joined Right to Dream in October 2012 as Finance Director. He is responsible for the academy's finances and manages various revenue streams. An FA Level 2 qualified coach, he co-coaches the Girls football team. Patrick holds an MSci Physics degree from Imperial College London and previously worked in the investment banking sector.
