The Religious Studies Department in the College led a beautiful ceremony in the College today to mark the beginning of the Lenten period. Mrs Farmer emphasised the importance of empathy through this time with particular reference to our understanding of the daily challenges which our partner school, St Leo's Ludwar experience in Kenya. Fergal Kerr, an S1 pupil, is pictured having received his ashes from S3 pupil Paraic Keating.

Our senior footballers have graduated to the MacRory Cup semi final having defeated Omagh CBS in Emyvale on Saturday. Omagh seemed to be in control of the game until the final stages of the first half when Dara Noonan punched to the net in a dramatic twist before the interval. The College impressed for the majority of the 2nd half and whilst Omagh CBS staged a mini comeback the College were able to see the game out on a scoreline of 1.16 to 1.12. Newry & Mourne Ethnic Minority Support Centre presented A Concert of Polish Classical Music on Sunday, February 3rd in the Seán Hollywood Arts Centre, Newry. The music was performed by the internationally renowned Polish pianist, Marcin Dominik Gluch who was preceded by a performance of Sonata Pathétique Op.13 by Beethoven from St Colman's College student, Bartosz Thiede. A number of AS Chemistry students from St Colman’s College, Newry visited Norbrook laboratories recently. During the visit the students met a number of staff including operatives, chemists and engineers. The students observed a number of different processes involved in the research and development and the manufacture of veterinary pharmaceuticals. Included in the photograph is Chemistry teacher, Mrs Geraldine Doherty.

J1 Quiz Team - Mastermind next?!

The J1 St. Colman's quiz team competed in the Annual credit union quiz on Friday night. The quiz was held in the college with over 20 teams competing. It was also part of the Credit Unions 50 year celebrations. The College boys competed extremely well and held the second place spot throughout the majority of the competition, a small slip up in the 9th round however saw them finish in third place. Violet Hill Athletes victorious at Delamont

A new breed of athlete has graced the fields at Violet Hill and Mr Mussen is delighted by their progress so far. After the success a fortnight ago at the DCU Invitational the Year 8 team were victorious again at Delamont last week. Peter Murray finished in 1st place with Jack O'Farrell crossing the line in 2nd place. Tom Magee finished 4th and Patrick Brooks completed the circuit in 5th. Our Minor boys were 2nd overall, Peter Fegan was our best runner and he was 2nd in the large field of runners

The Cliff The cliff face was a gargantuan block of freezing, unmovable stone, engraved into the almost vertical, mud-encrusted mountain. It was circled by thousands of pine-green nails, like enormous pins, tarrying to rip through my bony, splintered flesh. I glanced over the splintered edge and glimpsed a great, sloping cacophony of dusty crevices and misty vertical pits, painting wild, dancing shadows on to the pearly white hills.
